Why Career Goals Are Important
The career is a person’s ” Journey” throughout life and learning. A career is not a fixed entity but rather a continuously changing landscape that evolves as a person grows and changes. There are many ways to explain career and the word is commonly used in various ways. In this article I will talk about what career means to a person.
For a long time it was believed that success in one career path was pre-destined to success in another career path. While that theory is still around the corner some now believe that there is more than a career path and that what you do in your later years can have an impact on what you do in the beginning. This theory suggests that people who chose careers with good fits often choose more varied careers later on. It may be because they chose careers that allowed them to learn new things or it may be because they enjoyed the challenges the first chosen career offered. However, by doing well in one career you are demonstrating that you have the ability to excel at multiple endeavors and that is certainly more relevant in the long term than choosing only one.
So to sum it up, the career means something completely different to everyone. In many ways, it is like comparing the sum total of all of your personal experiences over the course of your life to a sum total of all the things you learned in your educational career. Now, the education really does add up over your whole life but the important thing to note is that you have to put it into perspective to understand its true value.
Setting career goals is another way to look at the definition of career. Many people often set goals that are too broad, such as “become the President of the United States.” This is fine and if you are looking for a direction in life that has a lot of promise but isn’t on the path to the top of your mountain of career goals, then this may be fine, but if you are truly looking for an objective way to take the spotlight off of yourself and to define what you want out of your career, then you must set career goals that are specific and attainable.
The key is to have clear goals that you can accomplish in a reasonable amount of time. These goals should be written down and categorized so that you know exactly what you need to do to achieve them. For instance, let’s say that you are going to set some short-term goals today, such as learning how to play the piano. You would create two short-term goals: one that says you will learn to play the piano today; and another one that says you will practice playing the piano for one hour each day. This is how you would set some short-term career goals.
A career goal is worthless unless it is connected with a goal. For instance, if you are looking for a job as a financial Model, your career goal is: becoming a top rated financial Model. This means that if you want to be in the modeling field, you need to make sure that you are setting long-term career goals in conjunction with short-term goals. This way, you will know exactly what you need to do to reach your goals.
